Ideas to Know: Value: amount of light or dark in a color Monochrome Color: scheme that uses different tones and values of one color within the piece Color Contrast: Using two colors that are very different from each other to create a dynamic design Font: a style of lettering Harmony / Harmonize: elements share a characteristic so flow together within a space or shape
Materials / Tools you'll need: glue stick backing board many printed papers -- National Geographic is great for this scissors pencil and eraser computer / MS Word Directions: 1) Choose a FONT that you like and think has a style that relates to your personality. It needs to have SHAPE rather than fine lines. Find out the NAME of the font. Look at the FIRST LETTER of your FIRST or LAST NAME in that font and decide if you like it. If so, move on. If not, search the font lists until you do.
2) Sketch out the letter on your background board. Fill the space with the letter. Be sure to make SHAPES (enclosed space) rather than lines.
3) Choose two CONTRASTING COLORS -- one for the LETTER and one for the BACKGROUND. Using magazines, collect lots of pieces of colored paper for each area. Choose tones that will HARMONIZE -- a wide range is fine as long as nothing is too contrasting in value.
4) Cut or tear the paper up into little bits and fill in the background with one tone and the letter with another. Use a glue stick to attach the pieces.
5) When it is all filled, paint a coat of clear gloss on top and let it dry. Put your name on the back and turn it in.
