Art Studio 8 Quarter 4 requirement #2:Complete a well-developed presentation of a VISUAL ARTIST’S work that uses one of the mediums and/or concepts you have chosen to use in a project this quarter. Content Questions: (What you need to learn about and share with others)
1. Artist’s Full Name
2. Years of birth (& death if applicable)
3. Nationality
4. Identify the SUBJECT MATTER of the artist’s major works – what do they make art about? What ideas or expressions do they create? What meaning does the artwork have?
5. Select 3-5 key / important works of art that exemplify the artist’s style. Include them in the presentation and be sure to identify the title, year, and media for each example.
6. Identify 3-5 interesting and important facts about the artist and their work that contribute to a greater understanding of what the artist is all about.
7. IDENTIFY and DESCRIBE the ARTISTIC STYLE of the artist’s work by including the following:
a) Identify and describe three ART ELEMENTS (point, line, shape, form, value, color, pattern, texture, space)For example: “The artist uses thin lines made with small brushstrokes,” or “The artist uses bold, primary color schemes,”
b) Identify a place where the artist uses a design principle in their art. Identify the title of the work of art and how the design principle is used to express a feeling or idea in the artwork.
8. Describe why you like this artist’s work. Be specific – cite examples that you actually see in the artwork that make you like it, and explain why. It is not sufficient to say “I like the colors.”
9. Look carefully at the artist’s work and think about how it could have a positive impact on your own artwork, or how it could teach you something meaningful. Clearly describe how learning about this artist benefits you. If your first impulse is to say “nothing,” look again more deeply. You can learn something from everything you look at. It takes thought and a curious mind to find it. J
10. Cite any resources you use to obtain content for your project.
The presentation can be:
Option 1: Written. Write a “paper” that includes all of the content listed above using complete sentences. Carefully develop complete content. Proofread written work for organization and clarity, spelling, and punctuation. Include images in an appendix to the written paper or within the body of the paper. If you have a blog, this option could be presented there instead of turning in a written paper.
Option 2: Oral. Create a presentation for the whole class about your artist that includes all the content listed above. Present it to the class at a specified time. You can use the Smartboard to project organized resources (such as a Power Point slide show or web based resources) as part of your presentation.
Option 3: Video. Create a short video that includes all of the content listed above. Be sure to identify artworks and cite resources at the end.
**Grading will be based on COMPLETENESS of CONTENT and QUALITY OF PRESENTATION**
